Schneider Electric
Location: London
Powering innovation through phased transformation
Schneider Electric tasked Woodalls with an ambitious challenge: transforming their London workspace into a showcase for innovation, while uniting teams from multiple locations under one roof, streamlining operations, and providing a platform for future growth. The project also involved integrating the Sustainability team into the existing building and expanding the floorplate to support new ways of working, collaboration, and client engagement.
Delivering the project in an occupied building required precision and flexibility. The Woodalls team executed carefully managed phases, ensuring Schneider’s operations continued uninterrupted. Every detail, from noise control and delivery routes to sequencing of works was considered to maintain business continuity and a seamless experience for staff.
Taking over the project from Stage 3 onwards, Woodalls adapted the inherited design to suit the realities of an occupied refurbishment. Collaborating closely with the architect, the team refined the design to be buildable, efficient, and cost-effective, achieving significant budget savings without compromising Schneider’s vision.
The works were carefully phased to allow day-to-day business to continue, including the removal of a demised wall to unlock a larger, more connected floorplate. Noise, access, and logistics were tightly managed, but the real complexity lay behind the scenes: mechanical and electrical systems had to be fully interconnected, requiring phased commissioning for new installations to integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure. Schneider’s specialist systems were woven into the design, creating a single intelligent network that demanded precision and coordination at every stage.
The result is a space that feels connected and alive. The expanded floorplate and removal of barriers encourage collaboration between previously separated teams. Four flexible meeting rooms with folding walls can transform from intimate breakout spaces to large event areas. At the heart of the project is the Innovation Hub a client-facing environment showcasing Schneider’s technologies in action, designed for talks, demonstrations, and real-time engagement with the systems powering the future of energy management.
This is a workplace where teams come together, ideas are exchanged, and innovation is brought to life. For Woodalls, the project is a testament to precise phasing, deep technical expertise, and a bold design approach that makes complex challenges look effortless.
